Feet on the Fly Pilots

Monica Bloom is the original “Pilot” of Feet on the Fly. Feet on the Fly was born one evening while a group of people went on a run and discovered that you can do sooo much more on a run than just “run.” Monica realized that you don’t have to choose between standing still for resistance training or having a great cardio workout…you can do both!

More importantly, she discovered that people perform at their best when surrounded by a small group of encouraging, supportive, and familiar people. That is the foundation of Feet on the Fly. The classes are kept small so that people can get to know one another, and look forward to seeing each other at the next class! This way, the intimidation factor completely disappears and the “flyers” can get the most out of their individual workouts. Everyone is going at their own pace while honoring themselves and each other. Yeah!

Sports and fitness has always been a staple in Monica’s world. In 2006 she interned with Alavie Fitness (Bay Area Bootcamp at the time) for 5 months before getting her ACE certification and was then brought on board as an assistant bootcamp coach. Monica cannot thank Heather and all the ladies at Alavie Fitness enough for the opportunities they gave her.

In addition to Feet on the Fly, Monica pays the bills as a graphic designer. She is also in school studying Ayurveda which is a 5,000 year old Indian holistic healing science. The word “Ayurveda” translated means the “knowledge of life.” Monica also teaches improv to companies. She teaches employees how to tap into their positive energy to create strong, efficient and easy flowing teams.

Vanessa Kennedy has transitioned from a “Flyer” to “Test-Pilot.” She began as a dedicated Flyer and loved the classes so much that she had decided to get her personal training certification so that she can help Pilot the class! Vanessa is working with Monica and obtaining hands-on training by observing and teaching the classes. Vanessa is studying for the June 2008 ACE certification test and she will have her own Feet on the Fly classes in the not too distant future once she is fully trained and certified.

Vanessa has always been enthusiastic and competitive about sports and training. At Lafayette College in Pennsylvania, Vanessa played Women’s Division I lacrosse and graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Biology. She has run the Boston and San Francisco marathons as well as several half-marathons. Currently, Vanessa plays in two co-ed soccer leagues in San Francisco and is an active runner, tennis player and downhill skier. One reason Vanessa enjoys Feet on the Fly so much is that the classes have the perfect balance of high-intensity training, as well as exercises to build the “core,” soul-nourishing yoga and flexibility exercises.

In addition to Feet on the Fly and studying for the ACE certification, Vanessa is the Director of Business Development at Accountants, Inc., a national staffing firm focused on placing accounting and finance professionals.
