Summer Promo

Tuesday, June 17th, 2008

I always see summer as the “social” season of the year. We all go to picnics in the park, bbq’s, vacations, beach time (ok not in sf) and take advantage of quality time with friends and family. So, this summer Feet on the Fly is offering the “Bring a Friend” promo. You bring a friend, they get a free class. If they purchase a punchcard, you get a free class.

Good people know more good people, so let’s keep the positivity flowing at FoF. A great workout and great fun is sure to be had by all, so come on out and bring your friend!

Feet on the Fly Sunset Run
Thursday | June 19th | 7:30 pm-8:45
Meet at the cannon on Lyon and Lombard

we will end at the Final Final for…popcorn

I don’t know how much of a sunset we’re going to see due to it being “summer” in San Francisco. BUT! I do know that a run in the fog is great fun. It’s like nature is giving us a cooling summer facial – people pay good money for mist like that!

Join us for Feet on the Fly and afterwards we will mosey over to the Final Final for some adult beverages & popcorn.

Yeeehaawww! Hope to see my flyers there!

Monica Speaks on Ayurveda

Monday, May 12th, 2008

Another cool thing about Sports Basement is that they have a speaker series where you can go listen to people lecture on various topics dealing with athletic, outdoorsy and healthy schtuff – for free!

Aaaand, they have invited me to be a part of the series! So I (Monica) will be doing a lecture on Thursday June 12th 6:30 pm @ Sports Basement (Bryant St) on the topic of Ayurveda. I would love to see a packed house so that I can share this knowledge with a LOT of people. So please, bring all of your friends. Here is the blurb about my lecture:

Monica Bloom, owner of Feet on the Fly and an Ayurvedic student, will teach you the philosophies of Ayurveda and how to balance your mind, body, and soul for optimum health. Ayurveda is a 5,000 year old Indian holistic healing science meaning, “The Knowledge of Life.” It teaches us how to stay disease-free simply by knowing what energies (doshas) govern our unique bodies and how to remain in flux with nature. Through this self knowledge we are able to take responsibility for our own health, mental well being, and spiritual growth. Monica is excited to give you the gift of self knowledge so you can start applying this fascinating ancient science to your own life.

Support from Sports Basement

Monday, May 12th, 2008

Dude. Let me tell you how much Sports Basement rocks. I called to see if I could get the Flyers a discount on merchandise…they not only gave us a discount, but they are throwing us a party, coming out to a Feet on the Fly class to do a gait analysis for everyone AND they are helping us grow! I was amazed at the help and support they are giving us. Holy schnykees. Info on the party below:

The party is on Thursday, May 22nd from 6-8 pm
FREE BEER, FREE FOOD and 15% off anything in the store
Sports Basement on 1590 Bryant Street (between 15th & 16th)

If you have not been to the store yet, Sports Basement is a close-out sporting goods store that offers gear and apparel for snowboarding, hiking, biking, swimming and running at 30%-60% below retail. Brands include The North Face, Burton, Salomon, Asics, Adidas, Hind and many more. www.sportsbasement.com

In addition, on Wednedsay May 14th, Jim (from “the SB”) will be coming out to do a gait analysis of the flyers come to the 6:15 pm class. This means that he will watch how you run and make sure that the shoes you are wearing are the right ones for your bod. And if they’re not, he will happily make recommendations based on his analysis of YOU. Yeah…we like that.

The Pilots and Flyers thank you Sports Basement!!!

Feet on the Fly Resumes

Wednesday, April 16th, 2008

Ian going up Lombard Street

Starting Saturday, April 26th Feet on the Fly will resume its place on the San Franciso streets and parks. Yahooey! I am excited to get together again to enjoy the outdoors, workout, laugh, hang with cool people and release some stress after long work days and work weeks.

Feet on the Fly is evolving so I thought I’d fill you in on those things tout de suite! For those of you who don’t know what Feet on the Fly is, click here for more information.

Welcome Vanessa. I am happy to announce that I will have a partner in crime! A “test pilot” if you will. Vanessa Kennedy (former Flyer!) will be training with me in tandem at first and then will train one class a week on her own. Both of us will pilot the Saturday classes. Vanessa will head up the running class and I will take the power walkers. That way we can all rally afterwards in Feet on the Fly fashion for the infamous orange slices, post-chatter, and coffee somewheres.

Longer Class and Yoga Added. Class time will be increased from 1 hour to 1 hour 15 minutes. Reason being, stretch time and cool down always seems to be rushed. Ending with yoga, I feel is extremely important. It allows us to cool down, calm our minds and our bodies before jetting off to do the next thing. If I can give you the gift of 15-20 minutes of mindful breathing and stretching, by golly I’m gonna do it! Seriously, it’s so important for flexibility, strength, and control of a peaceful mind. You, your bod and your mind will love it.

Pricing Change. Not a big shocker here because we have longer classes now. Punch cards will be $200 for 10 workouts and drop ins will be $25.

RSVP and 24 Hour Cancellations. If you plan on attending, please RSVP to reserve your spot. It doesn’t have to be anything fancy, just a little note saying, “Yes, in!” or “me!” We need at least 2 people to have class and we will limit the class to 8 people. Workouts will be cancelled if only 1 person has RSVP’d 24 hours prior to the class. Also, 24 hours is required for cancellation or you will be “punched” (hah!).

Fluid Calendar. We are going to stick to the schedule of Monday & Wednesday evenings and Saturday mornings in the beginning. However, Vanessa and I both have day jobs like most people, so there is a possibility that we could be traveling for work. If that’s the case, we will just swap out a different day of the week, always trying to have at least 2 weekdays.

Saturdays. Feet on the Fly will be 2 or 3 Saturdays a month. If there is high demand, there is potential to add more.

Special Events. Once a month there will be a special event! This will be 1/2 workout, 1/2 big social hoo-ha. Or maybe 1/4 workout, 3/4 big social hoo-ha. You work out better and more consistently when you have friends surrounding you. This is to bond us all so we have workout comrades. Groovy stuff ahead I’m tellin ya!
